Modularp is a system of LARP rules developed as product of many years of the author's experience as LARP game designer and game master.
The system aims to make the live game as diverse as possible while resorting to a minimum of rules:
Principles: these are the "soft" rules of safety, fair play, role play, etc. Without them the game cannot function at all.
General rules: these are the "hard" rules for battle and role play interaction that every player should know.
Any other rules are special and only the players who have chosen the appropriate race, skill etc. need to know them.
Larp is a hobby which is defined by battles with safe weapons, but with real armor, role-playing and equipment crafting. The word "larp" comes from the abbreviation LARP - Live Action Role Playing.
In larp games, each participant chooses a role within the setting (game world and context) set by the organizer. The game may have rules and conditions for victory, but it can also consist only in immersing the players in the chosen characters and the world.
Each player's chosen role is usually reinforced by an appropriate appearance of the character which is created by the player (clothing, accessories, makeup, etc.), as well as by objects of the game world set by the organizer.
Whenever the rules of the game provide some bonuses or abilities to the characters, they are usually of such a nature that their application depends on the actual skills or the expressed will of the player himself, and not on comparing statistics or chance.
This is a system of LARP rules that regulates certain game mechanics of a game in a broadly defined fantasy setting, but is not intended to determine either the specific story of a game or the way players play their chosen roles.
This system aims to be understandable - to rely on short general rules that allow for a minimum of exceptions.
The system relies on intuitive names of a limited number of game terms.
It is key to denote the same effects by the same terms.
The system relies on a set of basic rules applicable to all games, and modules with special rules that can be selected for a specific game.
ModuLarp strives to respect the traditions established on the Bulgarian and Balkan LARP scenes, and tries to achieve the broadly expected results and game balance using new means.
The system allows for a huge variety of game characters and interactions, without, however, imposing it on the player.
As far as possible in compliance with the above principles, ModuLarp's rules aim to create a sense of realism in a fantasy setting.
The ModuLarp system is free to use in its entirety or in the modular combinations described on the site.
The use of modules of the system in a modified form is permissible only with the consent of the author.
