The Buddha answered and said, “Thou (you) shalt get some drink and food, holding a service for the monks who celebrating the last day of Vassa festival, take the remainder and give it to your mother, she too will probably gain the food.” Mokuren did it just as the Buddha’s honourable teachings said, he took the drink, gave it to her mother, the drink did not become flames, and as the result, her mother could eat it as she wished.
Mokuren's mother is significantly bigger than other Hungry Ghosts. Also, she is bigger than in Passage 3. According to the image, other Hungry Ghosts are begging for food but Mokuren's mother seems to hide the food and refuse to share with them. Mokuren looks sad about what his mother did to other Hungry Ghosts.
