The Gaki Sōshi 餓鬼草紙 is known as the 'Hungry Ghost Scroll' in English. This scroll is believed explaining the Buddhism idea of "ROKUDO" between Heian period and Kamakura period (12th century). It reflects the unstable situation of Japanese society during that time. In this website, the juxtaposition of images and original text will be displayed; the English translation of the seven paragraphs are provided, and several assumptions that matching the text and the picture scroll are introduced.
