Lesson 5: Patterns of Revolution

Do revolutions follow a predictable pattern?

It's been the case that many revolutions follow similar stages. And, although they are not all perfectly alike, tend to result in similar ways. This is more or less true as you compare different revolutions throughout this course. In this unit, we are looking at the French and Haitian revolutions, while in units four and five we will learn about the Russian and Chinese communist revolutions.

Haitian Revolution

Latin American independence movements had their roots in the Enlightenment and previous revolutions.
French Revolution and Napoleon’s reign was a more immediate catalyst for the Haitian Revolution.
Haitian Revolution, like the American Revolution, was an impetus for the other movements in Latin America.
