2018-2019

Mansfield Mechanics United has participated in FIRST FTC competition for four years. With a few seasoned players and a large number of new members we started early and have worked hard to design and build our best robot ever. After competition last year the team spent time focusing on organization, communication and pre-planning for this season so we could be more efficient during this year. We also had a successful fundraising campaign last year that allowed us to expand our inventory of parts in order to build a more robust platform and have more options as we approached this season.

This team was the largest team yet with 15 team members. Our team has consistently grown over time and we had a wide expanse of different people that each specialized in many different aspects. Every team member had a specific and important part in building this year's robot.

This was our fourth year as a team. We were able to lower ourselves from the lander at the beginning of each match. Our main arm was successful at picking up the minerals and placing them in the lander, even though our main arm was very heavy and we kept on stripping the gearbox. We had some success with lifting our robot off the ground in the end-game. This arm worked for the most part, we only had trouble with the lifting mechanism at the end of the competition when our hook was stretched out and the pulleys and springs were getting worn out. This was our first year building the main frame of the robot out of a new S3 tubing, which is much stronger and lighter than in previous year's frame.
