If you wish to send a note home to parentsand guardians about the program, feel free to use and/or remix the text below. Optionally, if you know who your Museum Educator contact will be, you can include their paragraph in your letter.
Dear families,
Our class will be participating in a great ROM learning opportunity, using Minecraft and museum objects to learn all about coding and Earth science!
Minecraft Education Edition is an educational resource that is free to our students. It promotes cross-curricular learning, coding, creativity, problem-solving and collaboration amongst peers. The ROM Minecraft program is designed to support curriculum expectations from the coding strands of the Ontario Mathematics Curriculum and Ontario Science Curriculum. It also supports expectations from the Grade 4 Rocks and Minerals strand of the Ontario Science Curriculum.
Throughout our journey, our class will have the support of a learning tool called Flip. With Flip, students can record videos showing the challenges they're facing or the projects they're working on, and receive support and feedback from me and their peers. Flip gives students lots of control over what they choose to share, including whether or not they want their face to appear on camera.
We will be working on this project in class, but students can also practice their skills at home. You can help your student download Minecraft: Education Edition for free to a device at home. They will log in using their student email and password. Below are the download links, and a link to the student support page, where you can find detailed instructions on downloading the program to different types of devices, and on how to use Flip.
