JKM Selangor & mKitchen Partnership at PPR Lembah Subang

One of mKitchen's biggest collaborations is with the Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Selangor (JKMS). A meeting was first held between JKMS and mKitchen at KICT, IIUM on 30th August 2022. The purpose of the meeting was to explore the mKitchen initiative at a PPR (Program Perumahan Rakyat). JKMS has chosen PPR Lembah Subang as the "programme spot" for the implementation of the pilot project. The meeting was attended by 5 JKMS officers and 12 mKitchen members.

From the meeting, several points were agreed on:

• For mKitchen to have a site visit. This is important for the team to get a better picture of PPR Lembah Subang so that they can plan a suitable model for the residents.

• To address the possible issues that may hinder the residents from becoming more resourceful or not having the motivation to try and exit the B40 group.

• We came to know that two of our mKitchen members were recipients of zakat and JKM in the past. JKM has suggested that they become role models to raise awareness and enthusiasm among the B40 families as this will make the mKitchen project a success for them.

Site Visit to PPR Lembah Subang

On 13th September 2022, a few members of mKitchen went to PPR Lembah Subang for a site visit. After going around the area, they had a sharing session with Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Selangor (JKMS), committee members of Surau Al-Firdaus, and committee members of PPR Lembah Subang Blok G & H at Surau Al-Firdaus. 

Background of PPR Lembah Subang:

• 1 block has 392 units

• 1 unit is occupied by 5 to 7 people

• 1 block has about 2k population

• There are 8 blocks in total

• Nearly 16K residents 

• 90% of the residents are asnaf and B40

Activities @ PPR Lembah Subang
