For our fourth project together, the AFT asked us to create a new VR experience on Oculus Quest to teach people how to board a bus when you are in a wheelchair. As you play the scenario, you embody both the bus driver and the person in wheelchair in order to fully understand the procedure and the safety measures. 2 scenarios has been designed to covered both cases when the wheelchair is manual or electric.
The technical difficulty in this project is the length of the procedures and the amount of actions required to complete it. As a developer, I had to create the behaviour of many behaviours in game, like a remote controller, a safety belts and so on. We worked hand in hand with the AFT and disability support workers to ensure this serious game complies with current safety measures and is also non-hurting for people with mouvement impairement. This project has been developed on Unity 2018 using URP and XR Toolkit. I developed the entire game over the course of 5 months, reusing many of my tools and systems created for previous projects to gain some time. At the end of production, I was meant to introduce the newly recruited developer to this project and wrote an extensive documentation as I was about to leave the company.
