As a consultant, it is important to remember that we are working WITH the district and not against it. The best advocate for your child is YOU. As a consultant, I empower mothers to be advocate for their children. I help to educate you on special education law and services that could help your child. Together, we look at your child's case in an objective view. We also talk about the emotions you are having regarding your child education plan and come up with a plan to communicate that with the district in an effective way. Our goal is to work with the district to help your child as well as to help you understand your child's learning needs.
Please note that all of these packages could include a tutoring session which is described. Below are the services offer through Consultation:
This service is helpful if or when your student is being evaluated for Special Education Services. An Individualized Education Plan can feel overwhelming. There are tests and subtests that are confusing and hard to understand. It leaves parents wondering what does their child need? Test analysis is something offered in these services. As well as an evaluation of the services based on the reports and testing. Understanding your child's IEP will be provided in a report and tailored to what the parent wants to know. This service provides a better understanding of your child's needs and thus how to help them at home and advocate for them.
Every student with an IEP has what's called an annual review meeting. At this meeting, the CSE meets to discuss student needs and progress over the year. If it is a re-eval year, then they also discuss the testing and its implications to classification. This service helps parents prepare for this meeting and prepare a Parent-Input statement to send to the CSE. The report includes an analysis of data presented from the reports and IEP. This analysis will use the reports as evidence and then come to a conclusion. This service will review any draft of the IEP and any other reports necessary to provide you with the guidance necessary to prepare for the parent to attend and advocate at the annual review meeting with the CSE.
If you are in disagreement with the classification of your student's placement, there are ways to address this disagreement in a meaningful way. Working with the district is the goal. This service is very unique to each case. This service offers a consultations and reviewal of reports. Then a report is drafted with guidance on next steps.
Observations are the best tool to understanding your child fully. A parent can add this service to any of the above. This observation will be added as a further analysis in a report.
