Workshop about interactively presenting information in front of a group of people
(TEDx-Style Speeches)
During the workshop, participants will practice how to present information in an engaging way, how to structure the presentation, and how to use their body language.
The goal of the workshop is for participants to gain skills and experience in preparing a speech on a topic and presenting it engagingly to an audience. This session not only helps participants improve their public speaking and storytelling skills but also fosters a deeper understanding of the diverse issues and passions within the group. It creates a space for meaningful dialogue, inspires empathy, and encourages participants to advocate for topics that matter to them and the project.

The time frame is around 2 hours for a group of around 15 participants, but it can be more or less depending on the number of participants
Background
This workshop is suitable for young people because they often experience difficulties and anxiety when they have to speak in front of an audience. By providing specific and structured examples and guidance, and most of all through practice, they will become more confident when presenting.

Starting The Activity
First, the facilitator will talk to the participants about the importance of public speaking and presentation skills. Then, the participants will be shown a video about actively speaking in front of an audience and using body language.
The facilitator will give the participants these Instructions for Participants: TEDx-Style Speeches:
Pick Your Topic
Choose a topic that feels personal or inspiring to you. Some ideas:
Innovative learning methods or experiences that shaped your growth.
Your source of inspiration—someone or something that motivates you.
A story that changed your life and taught you a valuable lesson.
Ideas about creativity, personal growth, or overcoming obstacles.
Prepare Your Speech (30-45 minutes)
Plan a short speech with a clear beginning, middle, and end.
Use storytelling, personal examples, or facts to make it engaging.
Keep it simple and focus on one main idea.
Present Your Speech (5-10 minutes)
Speeches will be delivered in a friendly and supportive environment.
Take the central spot, speak confidently, and share your idea with the group.
Participate in Discussion
After each speech, others may ask questions or share their thoughts.
Be ready to listen and engage positively.
Wrap-Up
We’ll reflect on the ideas shared and discuss how they can inspire action in our project.
Tips for Success:
Speak about something you truly care about—it will make your speech more impactful.
Don’t aim for perfection; this is a safe space to learn and grow.
Support and encourage your fellow participants.
The participants will have 40 minutes to prepare their speech on a chosen topic by themselves, using what they have learned from the video. They will also be able to write down key points on a flip chart or create a visual for the flip chart.
The facilitator encourages them to choose topics that resonate with their personal experiences or concerns, such as:
- Innovative learning methods or experiences that shaped your growth.
- Your source of inspiration—someone or something that motivates you.
- A story that changed your life and taught you a valuable lesson.
- Ideas about creativity, personal growth, or overcoming obstacles.
Guidelines for the Speeches:
- Each speech should be concise, with a recommended duration of 5-10 minutes to ensure all participants have a chance to speak.
- Encourage participants to use storytelling, personal anecdotes, or thought-provoking facts to make their speeches engaging and impactful.
- Remind them that the goal is to share an idea or experience that they believe is worth hearing.
When everyone is ready, each person will present to the others until everyone has had a turn. In the meantime, after each speech, the facilitator will provide feedback to the presenter.
Speech Delivery:
- Create a supportive atmosphere for the speech session. Arrange the seating in a way that resembles a TEDx setting, with a central spot for the speaker.
- Invite participants, one at a time, to present their speeches to the group. Applaud each speaker to show appreciation for their effort and courage in sharing their story.
The activity finishes with the group reflection
Conclude the session by acknowledging the variety of stories and ideas shared, highlighting the importance of giving a voice to diverse perspectives.
Discuss how the experiences and ideas presented can inspire action within the context of the project.
