"Daily Choices for Functional Life" - A Game That Makes Financial Literacy Tangible
On 27th June, CEGE Association hosted in the International Youth Center in Pernik, Bulgaria a dedicated session focused on financial literacy and smart decision-making among young people. Central to the activity was the introduction of the educational game.
Daily Choices for Functional Life, developed within the framework of Erasmus+ Project № 2024-1-AT01-KA210-YOU-000245743.
The game is designed to support youth workers, educators, and trainers in addressing financial literacy through experiential, interactive methods. Rather than teaching definitions and formulas, Daily Choices for Functional Life simulates real-life budget decisions and helps players understand how small, daily financial behaviors can accumulate to make a significant impact on a person’s stability, well-being, and future options.
During the event, local young people explored the game in groups, each facing choices that reflect actual dilemmas many youth encounter.
The game put the participants in the shoes of 4 personas with different financial backgrounds, engages them with realistic, everyday financial situations, and challenges them to make choices based on the characters' priorities and long-term thinking.
The session revealed important patterns: many participants realized how small, seemingly harmless choices (like spontaneous purchases or skipping essential expenses) could lead to significant negative or positive outcomes over time. It became clear that functional life planning starts with awareness — and that financial literacy is not about being “good with numbers,” but about making intentional decisions.
This event in Pernik marks one of the local implementation steps of the “Minimal & Functional” toolkit being developed under the project. The positive feedback gathered will contribute to further refinement and dissemination of the tool across partner countries.
We believe that financial literacy is not only about numbers — it’s about values, habits, and choices. Through this project and tools like Daily Choices for Functional Life, we aim to build a generation of young people who feel confident, competent, and in control of their future.
