Mindful moments are short, intentional pauses that help students reconnect with their breath, body, and attention during the school day. As Shelley Murphy describes in Fostering Mindfulness, even a few slow breaths or a brief guided focus can help children shift out of stress, settle their minds, and return to learning with more calm and clarity.
Mindful moments are:
Brief (30 seconds–2 minutes)
Easy to lead with simple prompts
Supportive of emotional regulation
Helpful during transitions or after high-energy activities
Adaptable across grades and needs
These small practices give students space to slow down, reset, and regroup — helping the whole class move forward with more focus and ease.
