A pickup basketball game is a casual, friendly game that anyone can join for fun. It's a great way to enjoy basketball, meet new people, and be part of a community that shares a love for the game.
It is played without formal uniforms, coaches, or referees.
Call Your Own Fouls
There are no referees. Players should honestly call their own fouls and respect each other's calls.
Call Your Own Violations
Players should also call their own violations, such as traveling or double dribble. If there is a disagreement, settle it fairly and continue the game.
Game Point
Games are played to a set score (for example, 11 or 21). The winning score may vary depending on the number of players and court availability.
No Free Throws
Instead of shooting free throws, the fouled team keeps possession of the ball.
There are no referees, so it can be difficult to determine shooting fouls. Free throws slow down the game and interrupt the flow of play. Since other players are often waiting, games are kept moving so everyone gets a chance to play.
No Backcourt Rule
The over-and-back and 10-second rules are not used unless everyone agrees before the game.
Winner Stays On
The winning team stays on the court, and the losing team rotates out.
Waiting List
If players are waiting, sign your name on the whiteboard to reserve your turn.
Team Selection
Team captains choose players to create balanced teams.
Keep Games Fair
If one team wins several games in a row, teams may be mixed to keep games fun and competitive for everyone.
Respect Everyone
Play hard, play fair, respect other players, and help create a friendly basketball community.
A participation fee of ¥300 or more per person may be collected to help cover the venue fee, refreshments and operational expenses. Spectators can attend free of charge.
Lastly, NO PRIZE MONEY for Pick-up games.
Offering prize money for a pickup basketball game is generally not recommended. Since pickup games are self-officiated, uncalled fouls or disagreements over calls could lead to disputes.
Our goal is to create a fun, welcoming, and respectful environment where everyone can enjoy basketball together.
