Miles ISD Special Education Procedures Manual

This site supports the Miles Independent School District staff in navigating the district's special education and 504 processes and procedures. It is updated frequently to reflect changes in local, state, and federal policies regarding students with disabilities. The special education team is available for further clarification and assistance.

Children are special and so is their education in Miles ISD. Approximately 6% of MISD students have been determined to need specialized instruction according to the MISD ISD 2016-2017 Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR). These services are supported and monitored by the Special Education Department.

The Admission / Review / Dismissal (ARD) process is followed to determine which services a student needs. This is a collaborative process that includes parents, teachers, administrators, assessment staff, and other relevant staff based on student needs. The services to be provided are outlines through the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Services for students receiving Special Education are provided in the student's "Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)". This means that Miles ISD provides a Continuum of Special Education Services for students determined on an individual basis through the Admission / Review / Dismissal (ARD) process to ensure LRE.
