NORTH AUGUSTA - The U.S. Tai karate championship was held Saturday, May 14. Robbie Sikes was grand champion. Mike Hess followed in second place, while Larry Ellis was third. Andy Watford and Donald Long placed fourth and fifth respectively. The black belts were coached by Virgil Kimmey.
The North Augusta club won the club championship for the third year in a row. Triple winners in kumite, kata and weapons were Ann Anderson and Brian Hunt.
Other champions were William Scott, Matt McGee, George Kelley, John Gordon, Hank McCullough, Ray Sikes, Roxanne Siken and Yong Chung, Russell Oglesby, Gary Gay, Keith Mitchell, Bob Fleming, Bruce and Eddie Ferguson.
Second place finishers were Melvin Brock, Matt Nelson, Rocky Romeo, Brian Gilden, Jimmie Anderson, Eddie Guerrieri, Jimmy Marranci, Joe Castleberry, Wade Morris and Woody Harrington.
Third place finishers were Troy Overstreet, Richard Da Bolt, Tim Allen, david Boyd, Mark Epps and Fred Anderson.
Best Sportsmanship awards went to Russell Oglesby, Roxanne Sikes, Matt McGee and Jimmie Anderson.
