Five students at the Mike Hess Karate School in Aiken took first place in their divisions of the Southeast Competitors Karate Association championships last weekend in Ninety Sue.
Hess placed first in fighting in the executive men middleweight division, while Jackie Herron took first place in the black belt women’s form division and fighting in the black belt women’s division. She also finished third in weapons in the black belt weapons division. Other winners were Joshua Blake in the 12-13 white/yellow forms division and Ryan Buffett in the 6-7 white/yellow forms division. Blake also finished second in white/yellow fighting. Other students who placed were Amy Dorn, second in fighting in the women’s brown belt division and fourth place in forms, and Matthew Wilkinson, second in the 10-11 white/yellow forms.
