My name is Vince miller and I am a black belt under Mike Hess. I started with Mike at 14 yrs old. I had tried every sport only to find I was no good at any of them. One day in school I met a student of Mike's and he talked me into trying out the class.
I instantly fell in love, finally found something I was good at. I progressed quickly to blue belt but my dad lost his job here so we had to move to L.A. That weekend I was supposed to go for green belt. I was away for a few years never forgetting karate or the father figure Mike Hess.
The whole time I was gone I felt something was missing so when I was 23 I came back on my own and Mike took me in as his own. With a lot of hard work I got back to where I left off. In 2003, after a couple years of training, I got my black belt, the biggest accomplishment of my life.
Since then my karate has slowed down due to a couple back surgeries and a full hip replacement, but karate and Mike Hess is always in my heart and part of my life. I want to end this by saying thank you Mike for everything you have done for me and blessing me with this great gift. I love you Sensei and second dad.
