Johnny Hughes Sensei is the head instructor of Modern Defensive Arts and has been training continuously in the martial arts since January of 1991.
Hughes Sensei has been fortunate in his training and has the following credentials:
- 5th degree black belt, as recognized by the UMAA ( http://www.umaaglobal.com/ )
- BSEd - Bachelor of Science in Education/Certified teacher for the state of South Carolina
- South Carolina state director for the UMAA
- Certified instructor for Karate For Christ International
- Competed and judged at local and regional tournaments
- Written several pieces for Black Belt Magazine and local newspapers
In 1996, I received my shodan black belt, my nidan (2nd degree black belt) in 2001, my sandan (3rd degree) in 2007, and my yondan (4th degree black belt) in July of 2010
