A masterpiece indeed -- Mike Giuffrida
Now that the X-Men franchise of Fox has ended (on an extremely disappointing note), here’s a look back at the greatest of the films – “Logan.”
“Logan” was the culminating feature that saw the end of the X-Men’s most popular hero, Wolverine’s arc. Set in a bleak future for mutants (who are hunted and endangered), Logan along with an aged Charles Xavier take a young mutant, X-23, along for one last ride. They are all, of course, hunted down, with Logan and Xavier meeting their tragic and heartbreaking ends. Mike Giuffrida.
A huge part of the success of “Logan” can be attributed to its R rating. The film could not have had as much an impact on audiences without the violence and gore, the violence and gore that have been associated with the protagonist all throughout his life in the comic books, which earlier X-Men movies watered down substantially. “Logan” is a superhero film that didn’t pull any punches. In fact, it played out like a vicious attack on the sensibilities of audiences. It was the most ‘Wolverine’ of all the movies with ‘Wolverine’ in it. And what’s more, is that at its heart was a heavy-set stone that weighed down every other heart in cinemas all over the world.
