Take the road downhill to the park entrance at SK459 633. Follow the east side of the wood and go up to the Row Ponds. Turn left to meet a bridleway and then turn right and up Broadoak Hill to the Grange. Then along the bridleway to Ault Hucknall. Go east along Ault Hucknall Lane to just past a road junction. A footpath goes northwards to Glapwell and through a housing estate to the A617.

Cross over into Back Lane and into the Pinfold. A footpath goes northwards towards Palterton. Leave the PRW and take permissive path east of houses. Turn left along to the top of the steep hill. Turn right into Carr Lane. Leave the road where it bends to the left. The path continues along the “cliff” edge to Bolsover.

The footpath goes south-eastwards from Hillstown across fields to Scarcliffe. Go along the village street until just past the church where a footpath goes off to the right south-eastwards to Langwith Wood.

Take the track through the woods (shown on some editions of the Explorer as Archaeological Way). Turn north-east to get Upper Langwith at The Devonshire.
Explorer 270 Sherwood Forest.
Continue along the village street eastwards and after passing the church take the right turn and right again to the Shirebrook road and up the hill. Just before the school take the track off to the left that will lead you to the actual Archaeological Way. Take the ramp off to the left and on to the old railway track northwards until reaching Poulter Country Park.

Our path takes us through the park keeping to the east side following the black way- marks and heads towards Langwith-Whaley Thorns railway station. Cross over the footbridge and enter the car park. You are now in Whaley Thorns. Continue eastward until reaching Portland Road. Turn left here and go up to the school. A footpath goes off to the right towards Blue Barn Farm. Turn northwards onto the path to Graves Wood and out onto the road beyond. At the bend at SK 539 721 take the path north-eastwards and cross the A616 and continue across the fields past Hilltop House to reach Elma Lane. A left and a right will take you to Holbeck Woodhouse. At the north end of the village Robin Hood Way takes you left along the avenue to Holbeck and on to Cresswell Crags. Follow the south side of the lake up to the Visitor Centre.

Carry on from the Visitor Centre eastwards to meet the A60. Turn left here and shortly left again on a footpath heading towards Whitwell chimney. On reaching Hennymoor Lane cross over and follow the path round the edge of the old tip to Belph and on towards Hall Leas Farm. At Broad Lane turn right and then left to Birks Cottages. A bridleway takes you past Ratcliffe Grange Farm and on to Darfoulds.

Continue northwards towards Lady Lea, turn right SK560 795 go to Manor Lodge, turn left and up past Lady Lea Farm. Reach Rhodesia and turn left.
Explorer 279 Doncaster.
After passing beneath the railway bridge a footpath goes off to the right and across to the south side of the Chesterfield Canal. It meets a bridleway where the route goes left to a sports field and then up to a bridge over the canal. Cross over to the north side of the canal onto the tow-path. This is called Cuckoo Way and our route takes you past Shireoaks along here for about 3 kms.

Continue along the canal to SK533 816 and cross the bridge into Old Spring Wood. Take the path round the north side of the sewage works and up to Thorpe Salvin. Pass through the village and turn right at the church onto Lady Field Road and go up to the top of Bunker Hill. A bridleway then takes you over the canal and railway all the way to South Anston. Turn left at Worksop Road. Pass the church and reach a road junction.

At the road junction take Sheffield Road. Just past the Methodist church a footpath leaves on the right to the A57. Turn left and cross over to take Bank Street down to Wilberforce Avenue. Just to the right of the junction at the bottom a path goes towards Brook Walk. After going under the railway bridge turn right along Brook Walk along to Ryton Road (B6060). Turn right and just before the railway bridge the path goes to the left. At a junction of paths go straight on into Anston Stone Woods. The path goes under two railway bridges. After the second one take a left turn over a footbridge and head back on the other side of the valley. At Little Stones veer to the right and up to the edge of the woods and the path passes the sewage works up to Rackford Road. Head westward along here along to The Baulk (B6060) and turn right, then left along Quarry Lane. Go into Greenlands Park and take the clockwise path to the north-west corner. Edinburgh Drive takes you past a primary school just after which the path goes off to the left into Dinnington Community Wood. Take the clockwise track round to the northern exit on Church Lane.
