Soon after reaching the houses at Markington you come to a crossroads at the end of the High Street. Go straight across and over the bridge. A track leads off to the right which leads to a cottage at the side of the playing field. At the back of the football ground a footpath takes you through the fields to Waterloo. When reaching the road here leave it straight away onto another footpath that goes to Ingerthorpe. You come to a road where you go right. On getting to a road junction go left onto another track. A field path leaves on the right to take you to Markenfield Hall.

From the southeast corner of the outbuilding of Markenfield Hall a path, which is part of the Ripon Rowel Walk, goes northwards across the fields passing Bland Close. It comes to a road which you follow to just short of Whitcliffe Hall. Here a path leaves on the left and goes across a field to the wood at the edge of Studley Park. Enter that and shortly another path goes off to the right down a steep hill.
You then join the Seven Bridges Walk along the valley to The Lake. Skirt round the north side of this up to the car park. Then head towards the church spire. Turn right at the road and follow it through the deer park over a crossroads and look for a path leaving diagonally to the left. This goes to the centre of Studley Roger. Carry on across the village street down a track that becomes a path until meeting a crossing path. There turn right and cross the little Rose Bridge on the way to Hell Wath.

At Hell Wath there are two alternatives. Either go straight on and take in the Quarry Moor nature reserve and some of the Sanctuary Way or go left and follow the River Skell. ( Or again it could be made into a circular walk.) Either will lead you to the final destination - the west front of Ripon Cathedral.
Total circuit distance is 7.7 km.
