Pachelbel-Johann

Johann Pachelbel est un compositeur et organiste allemand de la période baroque, né le 1 er septembre 1653 à Nuremberg (alors ville libre d'Empire) et mort dans la même ville le 3 mars 17061.

Il est surtout connu du grand public pour ses fameux Canon et gigue en ré majeur pour trois violons et basse continue, couramment restreints au seul Canon de Pachelbel.

Son père était négociant en vin. Il fait des études musicales à Altdorf et Ratisbonne, et devient l'élève de Johann Kaspar Kerll. Il occupe successivement des postes d'organiste et de professeur en Autriche et dans plusieurs villes d'Allemagne centrale et méridionale :

à la cathédrale Saint-Étienne de Vienne (Stefansdom) (1673);

à Eisenach (1677), où il se lie d'amitié avec la famille Bach; il enseigne à Johann Christoph, le frère aîné de Johann Sebastian ;

à Erfurt (1678) ;

à Stuttgart (1690) ;

à Gotha (1692) ;

Johann Pachelbel is a German composer and organist of the Baroque period, born September 1, 1653 in Nuremberg (then a Free City of Empire) and died in the same city on March 3, 17061.

He is best known to the general public for his famous Canon and Gigue in D major for three violins and basso continuo, commonly restricted to Pachelbel's Canon alone.

His father was a wine merchant. He studied music in Altdorf and Regensburg, and became a pupil of Johann Kaspar Kerll. He successively held positions as organist and professor in Austria and in several cities of central and southern Germany:

at the St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna (Stefansdom) (1673);

in Eisenach (1677), where he befriended the Bach family; he teaches Johann Christoph, the older brother of Johann Sebastian;

in Erfurt (1678);

in Stuttgart (1690);

in Gotha (1692);

at St. Sebald's Church in Nuremberg in 1695, where he remained until the end of his life.
