Lebègue-Nicolas(1631-1702)

Nicolas-Antoine Lebègue (ou le Begue), né à Laon en 1631 et mort à Paris le 6 juillet 1702, est un compositeur, organiste et claveciniste français.

Nicolas Lebègue est fils et petit-fils de meuniers. Sa famille, dont les membres sont artisans, est alliée par plusieurs mariages à celle des peintres Le Nain, également orginaires de Laon : en particulier son père, Antoine Lebègue (1600-1691) a épousé le 17 novembre 1630 Marie Le Nain (morte vers 1655), une cousine germaine des trois frères peintres et qui est la mère du musicien et d'une fille prénommée Marie. Le père se remarie en 1656 avec une femme beaucoup plus jeune que lui, Barbe Millard (1626-1685) qui lui donnera six autres enfants.

On ne connaît aucun détail sur la jeunesse et la formation notamment musicale d'Antoine Lebègue ; on sait seulement qu'il a un oncle, Nicolas Lebègue (1604-1673) qui est « maître joueur d'instruments » ....Suite

Nicolas-Antoine Lebègue (or le Begue), born in Laon in 1631 and died in Paris on July 6, 1702, is a French composer, organist and harpsichordist.

Nicolas Lebègue is the son and grandson of millers. His family, whose members are craftsmen, is allied by several marriages to that of the painters Le Nain, also from Laon: in particular his father, Antoine Lebègue (1600-1691) married on November 17, 1630 Marie Le Nain (died around 1655), a first cousin of the three painter brothers and who is the mother of the musician and of a daughter named Marie. The father remarried in 1656 with a woman much younger than him, Barbe Millard (1626-1685) who would give him six other children.

No details are known about Antoine Lebègue's youth and notably musical training; we only know that he has an uncle, Nicolas Lebègue (1604-1673) who is a “master instrument player”.....Continue
