Microscope Studies

Our microscope project will let us use tools like our smart phone to take images of microscopic structures and organisms. We will collect and share some of the images we take of the object we find around our home and in outdoor areas. A simple jar of water collected from a pond or stream can be teeming with microscopic creatures. In these activities, we will work through the steps to collect, observe and photograph these amazing items.

  • We will need to find interesting examples of items to study

  • We can use a low cost single lens microscope to magnify our interesting examples

  • We can use a smart phone to photograph the examples under the microscope

  • Finally we can post and share our pictures

Start with the Project link to learn about the history of the microscope and how to use a laboratory microscope and then learn about collecting and preparing samples to view. We will then review the low cost microscope options and start viewing and photographing our own samples. At the end of each page follow the link to the "Next" section.

Join us on this adventure of see into the world of the very small, you may be surprised at what you find!
