At the middle school level, Individual Planning accounts for approximately 20% of my time as a counselor. This involves collaborating closely with parents and students to provide comprehensive career planning services and college readiness support. In the spring, I meet with approximately 100 eighth-grade students to facilitate the creation of their Individual Career and Academic Plans (ICAP) for high school. Additionally, I assist sixth and seventh-grade students with future class registration utilizing Tyler SIS.
In my role, I also provide students with a range of educational lessons that focus on the Missouri Career Pathways. I leverage various resources to support students in this endeavor, such as SchoolLinks, Missouri Connections, and Junior Achievement. As part of this programming, we offer opportunities for our students to visit South Tech, or we invite representatives from South Tech to speak to our eighth graders.
My commitment to college and career readiness begins early, as I work to support students in discovering their interests, strengths, and values that will guide them towards a career path that inspires passion and purpose. I firmly believe that these conversations around college and career readiness should start as early as possible to empower students to make informed decisions about their future.
