At the middle school level, approximately 20% of my time is dedicated to counseling curriculum. As a counselor serving students in grades 6-8, I maintain a monthly engagement with a 25:1 ratio of students to counselor. Additionally, I utilize our counseling curriculum to establish partnerships with local organizations such as CAPP, NAMI, Youth in Need, Safe Connections, Chad's Coalition, among others.
My current program model is a universal, preventative approach for all students with each student receiving guidance lessons. Throughout the year, my guidance curriculum covers topics such as the following:
Social Awareness i.e. making friends, conflict mediation, respect, honesty, etc.
Diversity and Inclusion
Self-Management
Stress Management
College and Career Readiness
Growth Mindset
Drug Awareness: Every year I also coordinate Red Ribbon Week with a student leadership group of 10 students
