About Us

Jubilate Bells - Jubilate Quartet - QII - Impello Bells - Wee Ringers

The Jubilate Bells is the main performance group at Metropolitan United Church in London, Ontario. The ensemble rehearses once a week on Wednesdays, and performs regularly at Sunday services. Within the group we regularly run two different quartets. The Jubilate Quartet has various members who rotate through the group depending on the piece that is being played. The second quartet is called QII (Quartet #2). This quartet is comprised of people who are just beginning to learn how to play quartet music. Our final group is the Impello Bells. This is our young person's group. This group acts as a training ensemble for the Jubilate Bells. The first two pictures below are the full Jubilate Bells, then QII, the Jubilate Quartet, and finally our youngest ringers!

We are also able to get out into the community to perform in and around the London area. Below are pictures from an annual performance we have participated in at Fanshawe Pioneer Village. The event is called "The Christmas Truce" and is held half way between Remembrance Day and Christmas. It is held over a two night span and we perform a repeated program continuously as people move about on a circuit around the Pioneer Village. As you can see by the pictures below, the church is so small only half of our handbell group can perform on each of the evenings, so we divide the group up for this performance.

We also enjoy the opportunity to go out and play at other churches in our area. The first two photos are at Westmount Presbyterian Church, and the next two are at Fairmont United Church.

For a number of years the Jubilate Bells has performed with the Pearson Singers and Twelve, both groups from Lester B Pearson School for the Arts, at a Christmas Cabaret in the first week of December. The first photo is the bells with Twelve and the second is with the Pearson Singers. The final photo is the group waiting as they are introduced by the narrators, and yes that is a Roman helmet and sword!

In February of each year we would do an exchange with First St. Andrew's United Church (FSA) here in London. Midway through February we would go over to FSA and perform for their Sunday service, and at the end of the month they would do the same at Metropolitan. February 2020 though we were not able to do those joints services because of the untimely passing away of Terry Head. We will truly miss Terry! You can see him at the piano in these photos.

And of course we love to attend the Ontario Guild of English Handbell Ringers (OGEHR) festivals! If you have been to one of these festivals you might know our group as the loud card players in the lounge, or the late night karaoke singers!

These final photos pretty much sum up our group! (I had a box of props at the church for a performance with the church kids - My ringers found the box!)
