MESHIK, Nuevo Meshiko. The nation has declared a national day of mourning after the assasination of Sultan Ricardo III, the country's spiritual leader, who was shot in the chest yesterday in front of thousands of people, while giving a speech on Nuevo Meshiko-Kunestian relations at Plaza Coránica, the city's main square, which sits before the giant Palace of One Thousand Nights, the country's most sacred mosque.
Police investigations into the matter reveal the act was carefully planned, and eyewitnesses report having seen "nothing at all suspicious" that day. According to the police, the assassin used a rather rare weapon, a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle, to commit his crime. They have determined he fired the weapon roughly two kilometers away, from the minaret of another mosque.
The news has Nuevo Meshikans across the nation uptight, with many clamoring justice for their beloved advisor. The police have not yet announced a suspect, but many are keen on insisting he can not possibly be a national. Widespread rumors are placing the blame on Kunestians loyal to the Batorvidekian regime in the IUWS.
