Welcome to the MeseMoa. Beginner's Guide! I initially created this guide in 2019 to provide a resource for international fans of MeseMoa., converting it into a more user-friendly site in 2022. This guide is entirely fan-made and is not affiliated with MeseMoa. or DD Company. If you have any questions, corrections or suggestions, please feel free to contact me on Twitter!
MeseMoa. is a Japanese male idol group with 9 members. They are known for their energetic live performances, their dance cover videos (particularly of girl groups), and the close friendships between the members. On 14th March 2023, they achieved their dream of performing at the famous Nippon Budokan concert hall, becoming one of very few self-produced groups to do so!
The group originated on Japanese video sharing site NicoNicoDouga in 2012 under the name Musumen., when they started posting dance covers to songs by the girl group Morning Musume. They began releasing their own music in 2013, and rebranded as MeseMoa. when 10th member Zeararu. graduated in 2017.
The group's name has multiple meanings. In the Japanese writing system, each syllable in MeseMoa. (めせもあ。) is one step ahead of the syllables in Musumen. (むすめん。), symbolising how the group has taken a step forward. MeseMoa. is also short for Message More. The group's colour is orange, Zeararu.'s former member colour.
MeseMoa. fans are known as irumii (イルミィ), sometimes written as illumy, because we are the lights illuminating the pathway to their goals.
You can find English translations of some of their content on Twitter and Tumblr (pre-2020).
