I am especially effective with students who deal with a lot of negative emotions surrounding math.
While I also love working with the enthusiastic and gifted students, I’ve found that it’s pretty common for students to feel discouraged, defeated, and sometimes even hopeless about their ability to succeed in math when they first come to me for help. I never get tired of helping those students experience success and grow in confidence. Even just one or two tutoring sessions can give them a window into their ability to learn.
My husband and I moved to the Happy Valley/Clackamas area in 2019 to be closer to our daughter and son-in-law. Our son hopes to move here as well. I’m looking forward to setting down deep roots here!
You can see from the picture that I’m a cat lover. Sophie, featured in the picture, and Sasha, my orange and white cat, are bred to be low in allergens so that many people who are normally allergic to cats have little or no reaction to them. Their presence during the tutoring sessions actually reduces some of the math anxiety that some students experience. For other students who are uncomfortable around cats, I can keep them out of the tutoring room.
