Adjectives to Describe Languages
We can use adjectives to describe the languages that we speak. For example, when I speak Malay, I feel comfortable and calm because I'm confident speaking that language.
When I speak Tamil, I sometimes get nervous because I'm afraid I may get stuck while trying to say something. However, my Tamil-speaking friends are always very helpful and encourage me to be brave.
Think of a few adjectives to describe each language that you speak. Explain your choices.
Languages, Colours and Places
When I think about English, I think about the blue water of the lakes in Canada where I speak English. The colour green represents Malay to me because it reminds me of the green coconut trees in Malaysia where I grew up.
If you had to pick a colour to represent each language you speak, what would you choose and why?
What memories do those colours bring to your mind?
Think about the different places where you speak those languages.
Your Feelings about Languages
When I speak Tamil back in my home country, it makes me feel closer to my family. When I speak English with my new friends in Canada, I feel happy that I can communicate with them.
