Getting around Melbourne
The majority of metropolitan Melbourne can be accessed by some form of public transport, whether it be bus, train or tram! Many railway stations have connecting bus services or connecting tram services to help link up Melbourne. All major shopping centres have public transport connections as well, so if you don't want to risk struggling for hours to find a parking spot, public transport is the best option!

In the inner city areas, trams and trains are abundant, with the CBD containing access to all suburban railway lines and tram routes, as well as major Smartbus routes to the suburbs. Inside the CBD, there is a Free Tram Zone which enables commuters to use the trams inside the city without having to pay any fares. As soon as you exit the city, you will need to touch on. Major interchanges are located on Swanston Street (trams), Flinders Street Station (suburban trains), Southern Cross Station (regional trains) and Lonsdale Street (buses).

When navigating the suburbs, its a good idea to have the Public Transport Victoria (PTV) app or TransportVIC, which provides real-time data for trains and provides scheduled arrivals and departures for trams and buses. Other apps that help your suburban travel include the tramTracker app, which provides real time data for trams, and the Ventura tracker app, which provides real time data for bus routes run by Venutra.
When travelling on trains and buses in the suburbs, you must always touch on and off! Failing to do so is fare-evading and is punishable! When travelling on trams, you have to touch on but you do not have to touch off.

You can take a SkyBus from many different areas of Melbourne to reach Melbourne's airports. There are eight different routes that can get you to an airport.

There are multiple PTV Bus options to transfer from Melbourne Airport into the CBD.
This solution is much cheaper than SkyBus, using the normal Myki fare system to charge fares, however, will be much slower, and will often require a mode change to a Metropolitan train to complete the journey into the city.
