About

The HCMT (High Capacity Metro Train) is the newest train on Melbourne's network. The trains entered revenue passenger service on the 27th of December 2020, in a demonstration run. HCMT's are expected to roll out to daily revenue service with the new timetable change at the end of January 2021. 65 HCMTs are being constructed by Downer Rail and Evolution Rail.

Specifications + Details

The trains are seven cars in length and and have a total capacity of 1800 passengers. They have 6 doors per carriage and are 160 metres in length.

Lines Served

The HCMT currently serves the Pakenham Line, but in the future will also run on the Sunbury & Cranbourne Lines when the Metro Tunnel opens.
