Solar System

Today's lesson plan will be about the solar system! We will begin by watching 2 introductory videos about our solar system and its planets. Then, students will play planet hop and learn about the order of the planets in the solar system. We will then explore NASA's solar system webpage to learn more about the individual planets. Next, students will pick a planet in the solar system to complete their Planet Scaled worksheet. We will finish by exploring Google Earth as a class, and view real images taken by NASA of the planets. Homework will be a solar system match-up worksheet.

I will set up plastic rubbery mats outside of the classroom. As a class, we will label the mats in the order of the solar system. We will discuss mnemonic devices like "My Very Excellent Mom Just Served Us Noodles" that we can use to remember the order. Then, students will jump from planet to planet in order.
