Today's lesson will be on the scientific method! Students will learn and become scientists today, and learn about what methods scientists use to solve questions about the world. We will begin by watching the following video to introduce the topic of the scientific method. After this video, students will complete a graphic organizer and label the steps in the scientific method. After, we will play the NOVA game "Five Curious Scientists." Finally, we will complete a lab by ourselves! We will tackle the question: Do all objects sink in water?
For the lab I will provide: bins, water, hollow sticks, rocks, leaves, bouncy balls, and toy cars. Students will utilize the scientific method to answer the question: Do all objects sink in water?
Learning Objectives: Students will be able to recognize the 6 steps of the scientific method, and be able to apply them to real life scenarios. They will also be able to observe and form their own questions about their environment, and devise a plan to come to a conclusion via an experiment.
