My co-chair responsibilities included organizing students registrations, coordinating a meeting with the Rockland Orchestra teachers and leading the selection decisions, and communicating deadlines. I cannot wait to see the final product.
I just wanted to send out a reminder about this week's RCMEA Scholarship meeting. We will be meeting this Wednesday at 4:15pm where we've been in past years. I believe it's called "Montebello Estates" - 75 Montebello Rd. in Suffern (right across from Suffern Middle School). Look for the big mansion. :) We're not sure if we can be in the conference room or not...but we'll try for there first (walk in and it's the first room on the left side). If we can't be in there, we will meet in our music library downstairs.
Â
In case you can't make the meeting, just respond to this and let me know if you're still able to give us feedback to use in the meeting.
Â
Please review the information from my last email and let me know if you have any issues accessing the applicants' materials. Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Hello! Thank you so much for volunteering to be on the RCMEA Scholarship Committee. We really appreciate your time and input, and hope that you find it worth your effort to reward some super talented high schoolers in Rockland!

While we have been zooming our RCMEA meetings this year, we hope to be able to meet in person for a change for this scholarship meeting. If you can join us on Wednesday, May 12th at 4:15pm (place TBA), we would love to see you! It would only be about 8 of us, at most, if we are all able to come. If you would rather zoom in or can't make the time at all, please let me know, and we would still love your input on the applicants!
Â
I apologize in advance for the long email - no need to read it all until you're reviewing the applications. :)
Â
We have 6 candidates this year, and I have collected their materials and hopefully organized them in a way that makes them easy to review. Please read the instructions below and let me know if you have any questions or can't find/access something. And sorry if these directions are common sense - I never know who's comfortable with Google stuff and who's not. :)
Â
1. Please click here to access the 2021 Scholarship Submissions folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1FT3-kMrF5XPzYJFzBJo8bkNLuYMcXTrL?usp=sharing
Â
2. First, please open the RCMEA Scholarship Rubric 2021 (blue icon) or click here to access it directly. I suggest printing this page so you can refer to it as you go through the applications, and you can make notes on it so that you remember things for our meeting.
Â
3. Next, please open the Google Form labeled RCMEA Senior Music Scholarship Application 2021 (purple icon). If you get a message about having low drive storage, just press "continue" (sorry, I try to fix this each year and can't seem to get it to stop telling me that!). Then click on the "Responses" tab, and then the "Individual" tab. You'll see that the first of 5 applications listed here is for Lila Villasenor - you can scroll down and read her entire application and view all of her links and scanned materials. When you are ready to move to the next applicant, just click on the arrow on top to move to student 2 of 5.
Here a holiday concert with music teachers from around Rockland county!
Monthly virtual benefit concerts for which I perform. To the right is the most recent amount of money we raised!
I serve as the Webmaster for the New York State Chapter of the American String Teachers Association. My duties include __________.
Being part of the ASTA community has been such a rewarding experience. String teachers from around the country generously share their resources and their time to progress the profession. Dr. Miranda Wilson is one of those extraordinary individuals. Below, you'll find three highlights of this guest visit:

Big Musicians is a 5-12 instrumental music mentoring program. Ms. Nurkit Lucksom and I pair our most talented and dedicated high school musicians with eager middle school musicians. To the left, you'll have a peek into what our weekly meetings look like. At the start, all of the students enter the large Zoom meeting. Then, Ms. Lucksom furiously creates break-out rooms for the pairs of students.
I remember playing my NYSSMA solos fondly throughout my time as a student in Suffern Central School District (back when it was still Ramapo Central!). I would prepare my pitches and rhythms before the festival, show up for it, and receive a score. These past few months working behind the scenes have shown me just how much goes into planning! This has taken a lot of collaborative effort with Ms. Nurkit Lucksom in particular, as well as Ms. Tracy Dobelle as a piano accompaniment.
