トーストマスターズクラブとは / What is Toastmasters Club?

トーストマスターズとは、1924年カリフォルニアで生まれたスピーチのトレーニングを主な目的とする国際的な非営利団体です。全世界で16,200以上のクラブがあり、日本では200以上のクラブが活動しています。各国様々な言語のクラブがあり、日本では現在、日本語の他に英語やフランス語のクラブがあります。スピーチや話し方だけではなく、リーダーシップやコミュニケーションのスキルの向上や学びの場を提供しています。
Toastmasters is an international non-profit organization born in California in 1924 whose main purpose is to train his speech. There are more than 16,200 clubs worldwide, and more than 200 clubs are active in Japan. 海外で身振り手振りや簡単な単語だけでも通じた、という経験はないですか？たとえ語彙が少なくても、なまりがあっても、表情やボディランゲージ、声の出し方といったコミュニケーション能力があればこそ伝わるのです。これは文法や発音は関係ないという意味ではありませんが、「自信がない」「怖い」というだけでスピーキングの上達は遠のいていきます。まずは、コミュニケーションの道具として、人前で話すことに慣れることを推奨しています。初めは、英語のパートは聞いているだけでも大丈夫！少し慣れてからやってみるという会員もいますし、ずっと日本語のみで参加している方もおりますのでご安心ください。

トーストマスターズでは、テクニックを修得するよりも、総合的なコミュニケーション力とリーダーシップのスキルを伸ばすことを目指しています。パブリックスピーキングに関して、もし専門知識やテクニックを習いたいなら、話し方教室など1対1で教えてもらうのが一番でしょう。しかし、様々な人から何度もフィードバックを得ることで、自然と人前で話すことに慣れていきます。また普通の方々から、自分が与えた印象や意見をたくさん聞くことで「自分の話し方が一般にどう見られているのか？」を客観的に見つめ直すことができます。トーストマスターズには、期間ごとのカリキュラムがないので、ご自分のペースで進めることができます。もしやる気と時間さえあれば、毎回すこしでも前に出て話す役割りもできますし、逆に時間のない方は月1回程度の参加でも効果があります。ただし、短期間で確実に上達させる事は困難です。会員による自主運営ため、毎回全員がスピーチできるわけではないからです。例えると、1つのイベントの出演者と運営スタッフを毎回メンバー同士で役割分担しているということ。

初めはとても緊張しますが、少しづつ慣れて声も出るようになっていきます。まれに人前で話すのが好きで来られる方もいますが、もともと人見知りという方の方が多いのでご安心ください。

Q. スピーチのプロに教えてもらえるんですか? / Can I learn from a speech professionals?

英会話や話し方セミナーとは違いますので、トレーナーや講師はおりません。また先生･生徒という関係で教えてもらう事もありません。会員がお互いにスピーチのフィードバックを行うことで学ぶ場です。

３日以内に担当者からご案内のメールをお出ししておりますが、迷惑メール扱いになったりメールサーバーエラーで届いていない可能性があります。ただ、お申し込みされた内容は担当者に伝わっておりますので、ご希望の日に安心してお越しください。

勝手に掲載することはありませんのでご安心ください。もし掲載不可という方は、初めに一言おっしゃっていただくと助かります。撮影の際、注意しておりますが、まれに後ろ姿など写ってしまう可能性はありますのでその点はご容赦ください。

例会の後の二次会は、ご見学の方や他クラブからのゲストも参加いただけるオープンな親睦会です。途中までの参加も大歓迎。たまに時間がある時だけ参加される方や、お子さんがいる、家が遠い等でまったく参加しないメンバーもいらっしゃいます。

講師など費用を受取る立場の人間がいないため、全ての会費は必要最低限のクラブ運営費（備品、会場費等）になります。

トーストマスターズはオフ会ではありません。会費など金銭に関わることや組織の質の維持、トラブル防止などの観点から、みなさん実名で参加いただいております。

Q. 代表電話ってないの? / Isn't there a dedicate phone-number of the club?

A. はい、ありません。 / No, we don't have.

トーストマスターズクラブはボランティアの会員によって運営されており、事務所があるわけではありません。例会の会場も公共施設の会議室を利用しています。コストや環境の面から連絡手段はメールのみなのでご了承ください。
The Toastmasters Club is run by volunteer members and does not have an office. The venue for regular meetings also uses the conference room of public facilities. Please note that the only means of contact is email in terms of cost and environment.

Q. 一度見学してから、ものすごく間があいてしまった。また行っても大丈夫？ / After the previous visit, it has been a long while. Is it okay to re-visit?

見学者の中には、何ヵ月もたってから２度目の見学に来る方もいらっしゃいます。日頃お忙しい方や、様々なクラブを見て回っている方もいます。以前、見学を申し込んだがすっかり忘れてた、ドタキャンしてしまったなんて方も遠慮なくお越しください。
