after yes

Currently Seeking Opportunities for Touring Performances and Teaching in Higher Education

After YES is a choreographic score for any number of dancers and any duration that interrogates and destabilizes conventional notions of discipline and creativity—both within Western concert dance and in broader Eurocentric social frameworks. The work explores the interplay of training, desire, sociality, and value, framing the dancer’s body as a disciplined archive while simultaneously cultivating spaces for creativity, agency, and responsiveness to one another and environment in the radical present.

Emerging from a solo improvisational score first developed in 2017 and subsequently shared in several configurations, After YES enlists performers to navigate fifteen paradoxical, simultaneous directives that guide the filtering of desire, impulse, perception, and relational dynamics.

After YES has evolved through multiple iterations. Each version demonstrates the score’s rigor and adaptability. The work has inhabited diverse spatial and curatorial contexts—from theaters and galleries to site-responsive installations. In each presentation, through careful choices that draw forth salient points of contact and tension, the environments themselves become material for the dance. The dancer’s presence and practice invites audiences to experience the space, its use, and its cultural history anew.
