Assessment presentation: Our assessment beliefs emphasize reliability, validity, practicality, authenticity, and objectivity to ensure fair and meaningful evaluation of student learning. We designed a cognitive assessment focused on game strategies, rules, and decision-making, ensuring fairness and authenticity while aligning with learning standards. Data analysis from pre- and post-tests showed a positive impact on student learning, with an increase in class averages. Our grading system promotes a well-rounded PE experience, encouraging active participation, effort, and critical thinking.
Assessment report: I conducted a TGMD-2 (Test of Gross Motor Development-2) assessment in the gym and a swim assessment in the pool to evaluate Maeve’s gross motor skills, coordination, balance, and water confidence. The assessment focused on observing her ability to walk, run, jump, balance, and interact with objects while also tracking her comfort level, movement patterns, and responsiveness to instructions in the water. Informal observation was used to assess her endurance, willingness to try new movements, and social interactions, helping to guide future activities that support her physical, cognitive, and social development.
Overhand Throwing Assessment: For my 6th grade students, I implemented a Team Handball Skill Rubric to assess their overhand throwing form, distance, and accuracy during authentic full-court game play. The rubric measured four performance levels, evaluating body position, throwing motion, distance, and accuracy to provide a comprehensive picture of each student’s skill proficiency.
Students were observed and assessed over two days while actively participating in gameplay. This approach allowed me to evaluate their skills in a realistic, game-like context, rather than in isolation, capturing how effectively they applied throwing cues under dynamic conditions.
