Ken Demas Leadership Academy: One of the most transformative experiences in my professional journey. Over the course of just three days, I immersed myself in learning closely alongside future professionals from across the state. Gaining valuable insights from seasoned educators who have shaped the physical education I know and love. In this environment, I had time to ask questions, engage in deep discussions, practice interview skills, and refine my understanding of leadership in education. Lectures were real world and offered guidance. The activities that were taught have been essential for me in my theoretical “teacher backpack"
IMG_5082.MOVCamp Ramaquios: As the sports Specialist I was responsible for instructing campers in various athletic activities, focusing on skill development, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Design and lead age-appropriate sports programs, ensuring a fun and educational environment that promotes physical fitness and positive social interactions among campers
Central South Zone Conference: A professional development event for physical education professionals and students, featuring workshops, networking, and hands-on learning experiences. I presided over sessions and volunteered, assisting with event organization and ensuring smooth facilitation of presentations and activities
SHAPE America: The SHAPE America National Convention & Expo is the only event of its kind! Choose from over 400 sessions featuring world-renowned speakers, honorees, athletes, and researchers. I volunteered to help the conference run smoothly. Unite with friends and colleagues, and forge new relationships with professionals from across the country
NYS AHPERD Conference: A premier event dedicated to advancing these fields through professional development, networking, and the exchange of innovative ideas. At this past state conference, me long with fellow future professionals presented “Adventure Awaits, Take The Risk - Will you?” A presentation about approaching risks and determining if they are actual risks or perceived risks. In our activities, we took them through trust activities that were perceived as risks but ultimately are not actual risks at all. We tied it to the affective domain, and how these tasks can help students with emotional regulation and social skills
PE Majors club meeting: Dotball 360 is a fast-paced, team-based game that enhances agility, coordination, and strategic movement through continuous play and dynamic scoring. At the Activities Club meeting I led, I introduced and facilitated Dotball 360, engaging participants in learning the rules, practicing gameplay
SHAPE Speak Out Day: At SHAPE America’s Speak Out Day, I met with legislators in Washington, D.C. to advocate for the importance of physical education in schools. I emphasized the need for continued federal funding to support quality PE programs, highlighting their role in student health, academic success, and overall well-being.
Raquette Lake: I spent two weeks camping in the Adirondacks at Raquette Lake, where I canoed with others, hiked mountains, and learned orienteering and camping skills. The experience emphasized teamwork, as we worked together daily to navigate, set up camp, and complete outdoor challenges!
