One of my favorite roles is being the Social Media Manager for Husky Network, Edmond North’s broadcasting program, for the past 3 years. At the beginning of each school year, the crew creates a follower goal to reach by May on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. We look at our insights and analytics weekly for each publication/post to see what worked and what did not. For instance, I create a shorter, more compact version of some feature stories to post on our socials (Instagram and TikTok). We also keep up with current trends and post our versions to connect with our student body. With nearly 2,000 followers across all of our social media accounts, we share events happening at North through re-sharing Instagram posts via stories or writing it into our scripts for that week's show.
While the anchors recap what sporting events have already happened, I like to include the graphics or posts that team shared via Instagram to give the viewer something to keep them engaged with the show.
Instead of doing individual graphics for all of the upcoming events, we compile them into one with dates and locations, as well as encourage the student body to cheer on their classmates!
As the Social Media Manager for the Men's and Women's Swim teams, I made an Instagram post for each meet day encouraging people to come support the team. I used our media day poses and rotated which boy and girl were featured as the cover to showcase a wider range of our team, not just the top athletes.
After each meet, I designed and posted a graphic showcasing the team placements to keep everyone updated on our performance. I usually followed it up with an Instagram carousel post featuring individual results, making sure the swimmers' achievements were recognized.
After each meet, I shared results for swimmers who placed in the top five in any event, whether individual or relay. I created a new graphic each time to keep things fresh and exciting, making sure the team’s hard work was highlighted in a fun and engaging way!
I designed this graphic to showcase each swimmer who qualified for the state championships. It featured an action shot of all 23 qualifiers along with the events they qualified in. I also made individual posts for everyone because I believed each swimmer deserved their own moment in the spotlight!
I created a vlog-style video to give a behind-the-scenes look at producing an episode of the North Report. This episode was special because we went all out with a Halloween theme, making it the perfect opportunity to bring this idea to life!
I created this feature story for the announcements show and wanted to share it with our followers on Instagram and TikTok. To keep viewers engaged, I shortened it from 1 minute 36 seconds to just 36 seconds and added a fun end graphic directing them to our YouTube channel to watch the full story.
During our school’s philanthropy week, BALTO, a snowstorm kept us home for three days, delaying assemblies and impacting fundraising. To keep things moving, Gavin Edmoundson and I interviewed the student coordinators over Zoom and created a short feature for social media. The video reached nearly 2,500 people on Instagram and TikTok. While we can’t confirm if it led to donations, we believe it helped raise awareness and contributed to the $360,606 raised for The HALO Project!
