The North Report is Edmond North’s weekly announcement show produced by the Husky Network and Broadcast Journalism class. As Sports Editor, I refine the script before filming, and as a Post-Production Supervisor, I edit the show in Premiere Pro, adding graphics and nameplates as needed. Occasionally, I co-anchor the main or sports segment and create feature stories to include in the show.
This show is truly special to me, and I’m incredibly grateful to have been part of its production for nearly three years. In this episode, I served as a sports anchor (starting at 6:57), produced a feature story on the ENHS Girls Swim Team (starting at 7:37), and handled the majority of post-production editing, including graphics and lower-third nameplates, with support from Gavin Edmoundson.
This year, I set a goal to cover as many Class of 2025 athletes as possible who committed to playing their sport in college. For this feature story, I wrote the outline and interview questions, appeared as an interviewee, filmed all of the b-roll footage, and handled the full edit. Playing at the collegiate level is a huge accomplishment, and I wanted to ensure these athletes got the recognition they deserve! This feature earned a superior rating in the Oklahoma Spring Media monthly contests. Interview footage by Jack Jones.
This was one of the first feature stories I produced on my own as a sophomore in 2022. Ryan and I grew up swimming together, and his talent in the pool is exceptional. I wanted to highlight him because he is incredibly humble and rarely shares his accomplishments unless asked. Looking back, I can see how much I’ve grown in my interviewing and editing skills since my sophomore year. This feature earned 3rd place for Video Sports Story (previously published) at O.S.M. in the spring of 2023. (Starts: 3:24 | Ends: 6:11)
Creating sports hype videos is one of my favorite projects. The thrill of perfectly syncing clips with the music, capturing the action, and envisioning the moment when the viewer thinks, 'WOW, that was cool!' motivates me. Although I’m not in the Sports Broadcasting class and can’t create hype videos for other sports right now, I’m excited for the opportunities I will have to work with UIndy sports teams in college.
