The Mental Health Access Improvement Act

Most Medicare providers no longer counsel people in their communities. Sadly, to get much needed behavioral health care, many millions of seniors and disabled must wait extremely long periods of time and/or travel great distances to find a counselor.

This bill includes marriage and family therapists and mental health counselors as Medicare outpatient mental health providers and authorizes them to develop discharge plans for post-hospital services.

It will allow more than 225,000 additional providers to assist seniors and disabled with their mental health needs.
