Howard Players Theatre History Archive is a resource for researchers, educators and the general public to study the history of Black Theatre. It provides scholars with a deeper understanding of the contributions of Black Theatre to American Theatre. It's unique factor is the comprehensive digitized snapshot of different time periods and access to biographical information, photographs, playbills, other theatre ephemera, news, video, oral histories and documents related to Howard Players theatrical production from 1909-2019 that have not been brought together before as a single collection.
This research lends itself to diverse research and pedagogical opportunities for scholars and current educators in the fields of Theatre (Dramaturgy, Performance/Theatre Studies, Dramatic Criticism, History, Analysis), English (Dramatic Literature & Criticism), Art (Fashion/Costume Design, Graphic Design), History (Public History) and other Humanities courses because it offers insight to the history of African American educational theatrical practices over the span of 100+ years, Black pedagogical practices and contributions to theatre history, and the creative practice of both popular and lesser-known African American scholars, theatre makers and practitioners.
