Who can can take the course: Juniors and Seniors who are in good standing and successfully complete the application process during the school year prior to requesting to attend. To be in good standing, students must have a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.0 (“C”), have an excellent disciplinary record and attendance (no more than 15 excused or unexcused absences), and on track to graduate.
Program dates/times: Two semesters - (full school year) Monday-Friday
**All classes are during Momence High School’s class periods 1-3 EXCEPT *Zero Hour Welding: which is 6:15-7:45 AM and *Aviation: which is during Momence High School’s class periods 6-8.**
Program attire: See their website for program requirements
2nd year KACC students: Second year KACC students must still complete an application. Second year KACC students who are in good standing and have excellent attendance (no more than 15 excused or unexcused absences) will be given application priority.
Transportation: Students will ride on the Momence High School bus to class EXCEPT students must provide their own transportation for Zero Hour Welding (to KACC) and Aviation (to the Greater Kankakee Airport).
When, Where, and How to apply: As soon as the application period opens for the next school year, apply! Students will complete the paper application (see link below), requiring a guardian signature, and give it to the MHS Counselor, Mrs. Peña. The first students to turn their application in get priority to go. Second year KACC students get priority, BUT they do have to apply with the MHS Counselor by the deadline. Pay fees before classes start in August. ($300 Momence fee and also KACC fees) See steps below on how to apply. Additional KACC fees are listed on the registration form and KACC's website. The availability of specific programs varies.
**KACC's Welding allows a limited number of students to attend during 'Zero Hour' from 6:15AM to 7:45AM. 2nd year KACC Welding students are given priority for 'Zero Hour' Welding application.
Attendance: KACC attendance is VERY important. They treat their environment much like being in the workforce. Students get daily points for attendance and positive work ethic in class, which can be easy daily points if working hard and ensuring you have documentation for missed days. Students are only allowed to have a certain amount of unexcused absences from the Career Center each semester, and if students go over that amount, they receive an automatic "F" for their Career Center grade, which is 1.5 credits each semester and could affect your ability to graduate on time. Also, without proper documentation, the Career Center does not excuse absences. Which means, if you are sick or are using a mental health day, be sure your parent calls you off to Momence High School AND the Career Center, and make sure that you bring in documentation with a doctor's note for sick days to BOTH Momence High School AND the Career Center.
Application window: now until February 6, 2026 (for the 2026/27 school year).
Step 1: Ensure you qualify with a minimum 2.0 GPA, excellent attendance (no more than 15 excused or unexcused absences at MHS the year before you start KACC), an excellent disciplinary record, and on track to graduate
Step 2: Complete the "KACC Application Form" attached below. (Students who would like to return to KACC their Senior year must complete an application form in a timely manner also.)
This form must be completed, signed, and returned to Mrs. Peña either in person or at cpena@mcusd1.net no later than 2/6/2026.

Step 3: If asking to attend KACC's CNA or Medical Terminology course, complete the Accuplacer test at KCC by the last Friday in May and give test results to Mrs. Peña by the last Friday in May.

Students who plan to take the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Medical Terminology at the Career Center next Fall are required to take the Accuplacer reading test. The Accuplacer test is given at the Kankakee Community College Testing Center.
All students who have signed up for CNA or Medical Terminology must take this test by the fourth Friday in May before their class starts.
Kankakee Community College Testing Center
Click here for details on how to schedule an appointment to take the test.
The test will take about 2.5 hours. The first test is free. Students who wish to retest may do so for a $10.00 fee.
CNA students must score a 213 or higher.
Medical Terminology students must score a 228 or higher.
When you have reached the required score once, you do not need to take the Accuplacer again for next school year.
After you get your results, please send Mrs. Peña your results either in person or at cpena@mcusd1.net.
