Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a graduation requirement for all students in the State of Illinois.
Parents of Seniors can apply for college financial aid early, beginning October 1st. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) now uses the previous year's tax information for this year's Seniors. Click here for FAFSA priority deadlines.

FAFSA has opened as of 9/23/2026!
Step 1: create your FSA ID by clicking here Both student and parent must create an FSA ID. ***ALWAYS write down your FSA #
(tip-use a notes app on your phone)***
All users/contributors must have an FSA ID and password to fill out the FAFSA, even those without a Social Security Number (SSN).
Processing an FSA ID can take up to 5 business days, so we recommend creating it at least a week before starting the FAFSA.
Step 2: complete the FAFSA by clicking here ***Documents needed are 2025 federal tax returns, W-2's and other records of money earned, banking statements and records of investments (if applicable), records of untaxed income (if applicable), list of colleges you would like to attend (you will still also need to apply to those colleges separately)
If you see a pop up that says additional steps are needed (such as submitting a photo for identity verification) after attempting to submit your FAFSA, be sure to complete these steps in order for your FAFSA to be fully completed.
If you do not complete this in one sitting when it asks for the information, your FAFSA application will be rejected.
Also, for the IL high school graduation requirement of completing the FAFSA your senior year, your information must match what Mrs. Peña's records have as far as first, middle, and last name as well as birthdate.
Confirm with Mrs. Peña after you submit so your information matches and meets the graduation requirement!!
**After you filed the first time, file your FAFSA every year by December 31**
This is what the identity verification pop up may look like:
