WHAT IS NUMBER SENSE?
Number sense refers to the understanding of key math abilities. Having a strong understanding of number sense allows students to work with numbers more easily.
Number sense includes understanding:
quantities
concepts like more/less, larger/smaller, greater than/less than
ordering
symbols/words to represent numbers
making comparisons

Make that Number (facts practice)
Make that Number (facts practice)
- Materials: List of numbers or a number board (numbers in squares), 2-3 Dice
- Directions: 1-4 players 1.) Roll the Dice 2.) either add, subtract, or multiply the numbers on the dice. 3.) Mark off the number on the list. *Play with a partner to see who can mark off more numbers or by yourself to see how many you can get in a row.
- Modifications: Numbers on list or board will depend on the operation you are doing. If adding or subtracting, numbers will need be 1-12. For multiplication, numbers will be 2-36 (Facts 1-6). To practice higher facts, use 3 dice and add two dice together before multiplying. Numbers on board will have to be adjusted.

- Materials: Two Dice, Writing Surface and pencil
- Directions: 1 player 1.) Roll two Dice 2.) Make a number sentence using the two digits (ex. 2 + 3=) 3.) Solve the equation. Extension: Write the remaining equations for the fact family. (Ex: 2+3=5, 3+2=5, 5-2=3, 5-3=2)
- Modifications: Try with multiplication, writing the family with 2 multiplication and 2 division equations. Use 3 dice to have larger numbers (adding two together before multiplying or adding).

- Materials: Two Dice, Paper, Hundreds Chart
- Directions: 2 or more players 1.) Roll dice and add together. Mark the sum on the hundreds chart. 2.) Continue to roll the dice and add the sum, marking each amount on the hundreds chart. (Ex: 2+3=5: mark x on 5 on chart, Roll again 4+1=5, add 5 to 5 on the hundreds chart and mark off 10. 3.) Continue to roll and add, marking the number off on the hundreds chart. 4.) Player’s turn is over when they roll two ones. 5.) First to 100 Wins!
- Modification: Play using multiplication.
