The Seabees and Your Sons

by William Lewis

Review by Richard Ackermann

This is a true story about William Lewis, a young man from Toledo, Ohio who signs up in the Navy Reserves in the early days of World War 2. When he is called up to active duty at the Reserve Center in Toledo in late December of 1942 he is assigned to the Seabees and finds himself with others on a train headed for Davisville, Rhode Island. He arrives in Davisville on a cold Christmas morning to go through the transition from civilian to Navy Seabee. He takes you through his early training at Davisville, then Camp Parks, California, and his life with the 75th Naval Construction Battalion from debarkation from Port Hueneme to setting up Seabee Camps in New Caledonia, the Russell Islands and finally in the Philippines.
