Seminaries and Institutes will be offering a seminary class in American Sign Language (ASL) in the Utah South S&I Area. In many cases students who are deaf and sign as their primary language are being raised in hearing homes and may or may not be participating in seminary or our wards and branches for members who are deaf. We need your help to identify potential students who may reside in your stakes and wards.
The class is designed to:
Better serve the individual needs of our youth by offering a class in ASL.
Allow for broad participation by using a blended model of in person and online instruction.
Award full seminary credit for those who participate.
Create positive social connections for our signing youth.
This will not be a traditional “Released-Time” class, which will allow us to accommodate a wider range of family schedules and a broader geographic area. Siblings of signing youth may also participate in the class as appropriate.
Please refer families and students who may want to participate to:

The Stake Presidency will conduct video or voice temple recommend interviews for recommend renewals for members once they’ve been interviewed by a member of their bishopric. Here are the steps to get a current temple recommend:
A bishopric member interviews the candidate, fills out the paper recommend, and signs it.
The member picks up the recommend.
A bishopric member places the candidate's name on our tracking spreadsheet.
The stake reaches out to the member and schedules the interview.
A stake presidency member interviews the candidate.
The candidate brings the recommend to the stake presidency member's house.
The stake presidency member signs the recommend, takes a picture of the recommend, and gives a copy to the candidate.
The stake presidency member sends the picture to the stake executive secretary, assistant executive secretary, or clerk to activate.

Hosting Sunday Evening Workshops at 7:00 PM. Between 8:00-9:00 PM is computer time to practice what you have learned. Questions/Info 801-763-2093.
The training is called QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer), and is perfect for anyone who wants to understand this issue (parents, youth leaders, educators, clergy, 1st responders, etc), because it gives you some pretty great ideas about how to talk about suicide with individuals who are struggling. This training is recognized within Utah as a great resource, is well researched, and applicable to everyone. Here's a link with more information: https://qprinstitute.com/

“Bishoprics are again encouraged to help all people learn to express a brief, heartfelt testimony of our Father in Heaven and His Son Jesus Christ, and the truths of the restored gospel, so that more members may have the opportunity to participate. Parents and teachers should help children learn what a testimony is and when it is appropriate for them to express it. It may be best to have younger children learn to share their testimonies at such times as Family Home Evening or when giving talks in Primary until they are old enough to do so in a fast and testimony meeting.” First Presidency 2/14/13
