"Social media is about sociology and psychology more than technology".- Brian Solis 🍁🍂
In this assignment, I examined the effects of social media as a society and my own personal experiences using these platforms.
After taking the "Am I ADDICTED to social media?" quiz, I discovered that my results are "fairly reliant". I would agree with my results; yet, others would have resulted higher in the observation. My social media spikes when I am bored, or sitting in a waiting area. I mainly use it for cooking, hair, and to follow up with surrounding area or national news. I may average 3-5 hours daily. Some days I am so busy, or focused on what I am doing, social meida is forgotten or I check in mid evening. I am satisfied with my self responsibilty as a user, and knowing when to break away for a break from the social media bases.
With these statistics, I wanted to show the comparisons of each generation and where the usage is with each age group. Where I show up being a Millennial, I would have to concur with with the stats.
Personally, social media can promote connections, give support, and share experiences from each person you come in contact with. Also, to create new relationships and to collaborate knowledge, and share insights to uplift one another. Along side of the positivity from the social medias, there is negativity and can take a toll on a person's mental health. With this, a person can develop low self-esteem, having unrealistic expectations of self, having an addiction constantly being on the phone, cyberbullying, feelings of loneliness, and social isolation. Taking this information into consideration, I manage social media well for myself.
From the indicaton of the quiz, I could reassess my time on social media. As long as I keep busy, the thought of checking networks are mere. When I find times that I am taking too much time I could limit my time, keep watching positive posts, and maintaining low impact on my well being as it pertains to the affects of social media.
